Patrick Roach (born March 4, 1969) is a Canadian actor best known for his role in the classic television series Trailer Park Boys as Randy, the usually naked and cheeseburger-addicted assistant trailer park superintendent.
Roach was born in the Newfoundland town of Branch, but grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Randy works as a deputy for park superintendent Mr. Lahey, with whom he has a “relationship” in which Lahey is heavily reliant on his assistant for everyday functioning, care, and nurturing, among other things. Randy is homosexual, according to Roach in an interview, despite the fact that the programme depicts him as bisexual. He was on Trailer Park Boys for the first four years. Roach continued to work for Sparkling Springs, a bottled water business, as a regional sales manager.
On his vacations, he would shoot Trailer Park Boys, but in July 2004, he left his job (which he had had since 1993) to focus on acting, a move he felt was dangerous but worthwhile. When he’s not filming the programme, he performs stand-up and improv comedy with John Dunsworth (Lahey) at comedy clubs and other music events throughout the nation. He also starred in an ad for the Vonage phone service. “It was unpleasant at first, but when everyone in Canada has seen you, what the heck,” Roach said when questioned about going shirtless in almost every episode.
He also appeared in the short film Trailer Park Boys before it was turned into a series. His persona was based on Randy, although he had a different name and wore a shirt. He is married to Candyce, and they have two children, Rebecca and Cody, who are not allowed to watch Trailer Park Boys due of their young ages (twelve and ten, respectively, as of 2010).
