Rio Hackford passed away in April 2022 of uveal melanoma in Huntington Beach, California, at the age of 51.
D.V. DeVincentis, Hackford’s friend and screenwriter, posted a heartfelt tribute to the late actor on Instagram, along with a black-and-white photo of him.
“Rio was more sensitive to life than anyone I’d ever met,” DeVincentis wrote.
“He would pause what was going on to point it out, forcing you to pay attention.” He’d order you a must-have experience from a favourite menu and keep your gaze as you focused on what was going on in your mouth.
In 1990, he made his Hollywood debut as a junkie in the film Pretty Woman. Before playing Skully in Swingers, Hackford appeared in several films, including Safe, Exit to Eden, Déjà Vu, I Love Your Work, Blood In Blood Out, Treasure Island, Sherrybaby, and Strange Days.
He is best known for his recurring role as Toby in the television series Treme. Hackford is survived by His wife, musician Libby Grace, two daughters, brother Alex, his father, and stepmother Helen Mirren.
